Rains feed the aquifer in the Lake of Banyoles

05-12-2011:CPM -

After heavy rains in November, the aquifer of the lake of Banyoles is very loaded and the water fills ponds, lakes and springs, and the pressure of water caused the activation of the ponds and intermittent springs system of Sant Miquel de Campmajor and the Pla de Martís.

On Sunday 20 November the temporary pond of Espolla has become full of water and the waterfalls of Martís are in activity. The level of Lake Banyoles has also reached its maximum and has forced to open its gates to prevent overflow.

Due to heavy rains from 19 to 22 November and the accumulation of rain throughout the month, the Lake Banyoles has overflowed. Up to 22 have accumulated 297litres/m2, this being the wettest November in Banyoles from the last 110 years. Source:
